Introduction
The Botany Graduate Program (PPGBot) of Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), was the first Botany Graduate Program in Minas Gerais State in and began its activities in 1995, with a Master's degree ( MS). The Doctorate (DS) was implemented in 2003. The program offers training in two main scientific areas, "Structural and Functional Botany" and "Systematics, Ecology and Evolution". The PPGBot main objective is the training of personals for development of teaching and research in the various areas of Botany. In the last evaluation of CAPES the Program obtained concept 5. The great demand for the Program has selected candidates from all over Latin America. The success of our doctors in contests for research and teaching activities, in several states and in many countries, shows that the objectives of the Program are being fulfilled. The Master Course lasts approximately two years and the Ph.D. course four years. The students work on a full-time basis under the direct supervision of an advisor. The funding agencies grant to the Federal University of Viçosa scholarships that are distributed after enrollment, according to the availability and criteria of the agencies and the PPGBot.
